Basic description
These rechargeable batteries are derived from lead-lead dioxide systems. The dilute sulfuric acid electrolyte is absorbed by separators and plates and thus immobilized. If the battery is accidentally overcharged – resulting in the production of hydrogen and oxygen –then a special one-way valves allows the gases to escape, thus avoiding excessive build-up of pressure. Aside from this special valve the battery is completely sealed and is consequently maintenance-free, leak proof and functional in all conditions.
